In Kiryandongo District, many births still take place without adequate medical care. Long distances to health facilities and a lack of infrastructure increase the risk of complications during pregnancy and childbirth.
The construction of a maternity ward is intended to significantly improve access to safe obstetric care as well as prenatal and postnatal care. The new ward will specifically complement the existing services of the health clinic and will be tailored to the needs of women and newborns.
The project is being planned in collaboration with Engineers Without Borders Switzerland to ensure a functional, sustainable construction method adapted to local conditions.
Several times a week, village residents have the opportunity to take writing and reading courses to improve their English skills.
Through practical courses such as sewing and hairdressing lessons, as well as making liquid soap and reusable sanitary pads, we enable participants to acquire income-generating skills and strengthen their economic independence.

The non-profit SIVERA association was founded in Zug in 2025 by Fiona Bienz together with committed friends. For several years, she has supported the projects of the “Light for Forgotten Children” foundation in Uganda. This close connection gave rise to the desire to sustainably strengthen neighbouring communities as well.
